Description
Part of Assouline’s special series, the Legends Collection, each hardcover tome is housed in its own elegant slipcase. These titles are the authority on their subjects, inspired by mythic eras, artists, and high society. Fit for royalty, these books are inspired by tastemakers across the centuries, and are essential to the culturally inclined influencers of today.
Born in Zurich and educated in Paris, jewelry designer Suzanne Syz moved to New York City in the 1980s where she encountered legendary artists Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Julian Schnabel, Francesco Clemente, and Jeff Koons. Her relationships with these creative spirits greatly influenced her impressive contemporary art collection and acted as a catalyst for her unique jewelry designs.
Frustrated that she couldn’t find the jewelry she wanted, Syz began crafting her own pieces in the mid-1990s. Today, the Geneva-based designer boasts a client list including the likes of Elizabeth Taylor, Princess Glora von Thurn und Taxis, the Archduchess Francesca von Habsburg-Thyssen, Michelle Yeoh. Inspired by nature, childhood fairy tales, art, and her extensive travels, her one-of-a-kind creations are infused with an unparalleled sense of whimsy, joy, and magic. Syz’s audacious compositions, use of unconventional materials, and choice of bold colors breathe individuality into all of her pieces.
This beautifully illustrated book explores Syz’s love for art, her family, and her inspirations, which are categorized as “Pop,” “Naturally,” and “Contemporary.” Organized in an alphabet format, with each letter representing an important aspect of her boundless originality, this title also features an interview style text by art critic Nicolas Trembley that delves into the visionary jewelry designer’s inner workings. With original photography, personal photos, and imagery of some of her most magnificent pieces, Suzanne Syz: Art Jewels is a delight for jewelry lovers, art aficionados, and creatives everywhere.
