Description
Part of an ongoing series, the Wedding is from Alshedoukhy’s Men Collection, sharing paintings, in which the men depicted are copies of each other. Sharing the same minds and morals, the same movements, and habits, the same words and thoughts. Comfortable fitting in, they are afraid to stand out, to think differently. They are our keepers, our protectors, our guardians. They guard us from independence, from ambition, from individuality. They guard themselves from shame. They don’t know there is nothing to be ashamed of when we are all the same.
About the Brand
Ahlam Alshedoukhy is a Canadian board-certified pathologist, and head of department of pathology at Al Faisal University’s College of Medicine. While working on her specialization, she started painting and began her journey through science to art – to find the place where the two finally meet. Her style is an unexpected combination of realism and abstract, with a minimalistic approach to both. Inspired by her surroundings, the exploration of the individual versus the collective identity is a main focus of her art. She also touches upon many issues such as gender balance and the complex man/woman relationship in Saudi Arabia. She believes in art with a message, with the goal of creating pieces that speak to the audience.
