Description
Part of the Cities series created by Julia Smolenkova which explores the relationship between the abstract and real, presenting cities as places that connect us with different countries, historical periods, and ways of life. The paintings in this collection exist somewhere between recognizable places and abstraction. Rather than simply documenting a destination, they invite us to experience a place through an artistic perspective.
Buildings, rooftops, streets, staircases, and architectural forms are transformed into arrangements of color, shape, and light, retaining the character of a real place while breaking it into geometric forms, layered planes, and expressive shades.
Each piece in this series asks us to reconsider the relationship between places and the way we experience them. These paintings are not simply pictures of cities. They are artistic interpretations of how places can be experienced, remembered, and felt.
