Description
Also known as a glug glug or gurgle jug, The Gluggle Jug was originally made over 100 years ago. With its iconic fish shape and functional design in which the fish tail doubles as a jug handle, the Gluggle Jug is based on an original design and beautifully handcrafted.
The Gluggle Jug is named for the unique noise it emits when pouring, which results from air being trapped in the fish’s tail which escapes when the jug is poured.
Use your Gluggle as a jug, vase, container, or ornament. Its color and style provide an exciting accent for any room in your interior.
About the Brand
Gluggle Jugs were originally made by Thomas Forester & Son in Staffordshire in the late 1870’s. However, most people associate these jugs with Dartmouth Pottery, which took over manufacturing after WWII. Dartmouth Pottery continued to produce and sell the Gluggle Jug for a number of years and even made a special pair of jugs in 1958 which were commissioned for presentation to the Queen and Prince Philip on their visit to Britannia Naval College. This gift undoubtedly helped the popularity of the jugs, and they became great collector’s items.
In 2002, Dartmouth Pottery closed, and the manufacture of the jugs moved to Wade Ceramics. Today, the jugs are created and sold under Gluggle Ltd, established in 2009 by Rosie Granger and Jane Joyce which now has exclusive rights to market the jugs on behalf of Wade Ceramics.
